Haunted Chocolatier is the next game from Stardew Valley creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone. Announced in 2021, this simulation RPG remains shrouded in mystery, with no confirmed release date and relatively few public details. Here is what has been revealed so far.
What is Haunted Chocolatier?
Haunted Chocolatier places the player in charge of a chocolate shop inside a haunted castle. Like Stardew Valley, it combines gathering, crafting, commerce, relationships and exploration. Players will move into a new community, develop a business, befriend and potentially romance local residents, fight enemies and build wealth.

Is it connected to Stardew Valley?
That remains unknown. No major returning characters or recognisable locations have been shown, although the two games could still share links through their lore. In the official FAQ, Barone responded to the question of whether the worlds are connected by saying he was not ready to reveal anything yet.
How will the gameplay differ?
The familiar cycle of collecting resources, making items and selling products will be joined by a stronger combat focus. Shields can be used to stun enemies, and additional off-hand weapons have yet to be revealed. The game will also include bosses, including a bee boss shown with its own musical theme.
The project appears to be aiming for a deeper equipment and combat system than Stardew Valley, rather than simply repeating its farming formula. That mix of systems could eventually make Haunted Chocolatier an interesting fit for players who enjoy both management games and action-focused adventures.
How much content will it include?
Barone has said the game is “way bigger than Stardew Valley” in several respects. He specifically referred to the number of maps and monsters, the depth of the item system, equipment slots and the wider amount of content. The final scale of the game is still difficult to judge while development continues.
Will Haunted Chocolatier have multiplayer?
At present, multiplayer is not planned. That is notable because co-op became an important part of Stardew Valley’s success, but Haunted Chocolatier is taking a more strongly RPG-oriented direction. Barone has also said he does not currently intend to add multiplayer later.
Is it a horror game?
The atmosphere will be darker, creepier and more mysterious than Stardew Valley, but this is not expected to be a harsh survival-horror experience. The ghosts shown so far appear friendly and helpful: they seem to assist with running the chocolate shop, while an FAQ screenshot suggests they may also contribute to chocolate research.

One particularly striking visual shows the lighting inside a bar changing as a vehicle passes outside. It is a small environmental detail, but it highlights the atmospheric presentation Barone is pursuing.
When will it be released?
There is no release date, and the game is probably still some time away. Barone has said he should not have announced it so early. Development has taken longer than expected because he has also been working on new Stardew Valley updates.
In 2025, he said he hoped Haunted Chocolatier would launch within the following five years. After expanding the Stardew Valley team, Barone has been able to devote more time to the new project. He recently told Game Informer that he spends five days each week on Haunted Chocolatier and two on Stardew Valley updates. He remains the only developer working on Haunted Chocolatier, but the project is not considered cancelled.
Which platforms are confirmed?
PC is currently the only confirmed platform. Barone has said he plans to bring the game to other major platforms, but specific consoles have not been announced.
