Warrior Cats gets its first video game before Disney Plus series

The Warrior Cats universe is expanding beyond its long-running book series, with a new role-playing game arriving this autumn and an animated series planned for Disney Plus and Disney Channel in 2028.
Clans of the Forest lets players create a Warrior Cat
Trailmark Games and Coolabi Group have revealed Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest, the first video game based on the series. Its brief trailer introduces a turn-based RPG in which players create their own feline protagonist.
The game centres on four clans, with each offering its own storyline. The structure has been compared with the different house routes in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, although the story will also respond to player decisions and the relationships they choose to develop.
Familiar locations and new characters
Clans of the Forest will combine recognisable cats from the novels with original characters. Players will also visit locations drawn from the books, including the Moonpool and the Island.
Both locations sit within the lake territories. That suggests the game is set after the events of Dawn, published in 2005, although the setting does not establish a precise point in the timeline: most books released after Dawn also use the lake territories.
The announcement trailer, Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest, confirms that the wait should be relatively short, with release planned for this autumn. No more specific launch date or platform information is provided in the supplied announcement.

The animated series is coming in 2028
The game is only one part of the franchise’s next phase. Coolabi Group announced in 2024 that an animated adaptation was being developed with Tencent Video. In June 2026, Disney announced the series had been picked up for distribution on Disney Plus and Disney Channel.
The animated series is scheduled to arrive in 2028, giving the books’ audience another major adaptation to follow after the game launches.

A book series with more than 50 mainline novels
Warrior Cats was created by Victoria Holmes for publisher HarperCollins. The opening story arc consists of six books written by Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry under the collective pen name Erin Hunter.
Additional writers have joined the team as the franchise has expanded. There are now more than 50 mainline books, and the series is still continuing.
