Ubisoft is marking 25 years of Ghost Recon with a limited-time PC giveaway. Players can add Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier to their Ubisoft Connect library at no cost until August 13, 2026.
The anniversary promotion also includes discounts of up to 95 per cent on Ghost Recon games across Ubisoft Connect, Steam, PlayStation and Xbox, as well as free-play periods for selected newer releases.
How to claim Future Soldier for free
PC players can claim Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier through Ubisoft Connect before August 13. This is a permanent addition to the library, rather than a short trial.
That differs from the promotion’s free-play periods for Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which are scheduled to run until August 10.
A tactical shooter with a near-future edge
Originally released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in May 2012, Future Soldier reached PC the following month. It moved the series into a near-future setting built around advanced military equipment and coordinated squad tactics.
- Optical camouflage for stealth operations
- Reconnaissance drones for surveying the battlefield
- Sync Shot for timing squad eliminations
The campaign travels through Bolivia, Zambia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia and Norway. Missions combine stealth-led encounters with more cinematic third-person firefights, giving the game a different rhythm from a purely traditional first-person shooter.
Reviews at launch were generally positive. The game was recognised for combining tactical stealth, responsive third-person shooting and capable squad mechanics, although its military-thriller narrative was considered less memorable. It holds a Metacritic score of 79.
A new Ghost Recon is in development
Ubisoft’s anniversary presentation also confirmed that a new Ghost Recon project is being made. Live producer Irina-Gabriela Popa said the team had spent “the past few years” developing the next chapter, describing it as a fresh experience focused on tactical action, large-scale operations and military storytelling.
The publisher has opened the Ghost Recon Insider Program, where players can register for future closed tests. Ubisoft has not announced the game’s title, shown a trailer or provided a release window.
Earlier reports have referred to the project by the codename Project OVR and suggested it could leave behind the open-world looter-shooter direction of the more recent entries for a more grounded tactical military experience. Those details have not been officially confirmed.
If released as a new mainline entry, it would be the first brand-new Ghost Recon game since Breakpoint launched in 2019. It would also close the longest gap between mainline games in the franchise’s 25-year history.
