Baldur’s Gate 3 has reached its third anniversary, and Larian Studios marked the occasion with another collection of player statistics. The figures reveal which characters are most likely to die, how often players use mods and a few wonderfully strange details about in-game behaviour.
Alfira remains in serious danger
The bard Alfira died in 48% of Dark Urge playthroughs. Larian also noted that more players using other origins managed to kill her than players following the Dark Urge storyline. Whichever character you choose, Alfira appears to have a difficult time surviving.
Dark Urge players also showed a willingness to embrace the game’s most violent role-playing possibilities. Isobel was killed in 62% of Dark Urge runs, followed by tiefling leader Zevlor at 48%, gnome Wulbren at 32% and kobold trader Popper at 30%.
Larian was quick to point out that these numbers do not tell the whole story: Alfira has been murdered by plenty of non-Dark Urge characters as well.
The NPCs who died most often
Larian also counted the total number of deaths for several story characters. Zevlor had the highest figure, dying 12.31 million times. Rolan followed with 8.62 million deaths, then Isobel with 7.2 million, Volo with 4.62 million and Alfira with 2.62 million.
Whether you chose violence or call it an accident, these NPCs found their demise in your playthroughs. Not sure what Volo did to you all to deserve this.
Mods and unusual play statistics
Not every statistic involved an unfortunate NPC. Players have downloaded mods 500 million times, up from 265 million last year. Larian paired the update with an image of a bald Lae’zel, who remains an imposing presence even without her hair.
The wider set of figures includes some particularly niche behaviour. The Poo-Scraper was used in combat only four times during Act 3, while a small number of players manually saved more than 560 times in one playthrough.
