With the next Kingdom Hearts adventure still lacking a release date, Duskfade offers a colourful platforming detour for players eager to explore another magical world.
A clockpunk platformer with familiar appeal
Developed by Weird Beluga, the studio behind Clid the Snail, Duskfade appears to be a deeply personal project. Its visuals feature glittering orbs, crystal effects, checkerboard surfaces, cobblestone squares and an atmosphere where magic seems to shape every corner.

The story follows Zirian, a young boy searching for his sister inside the mysterious Clock Tower. The tower has cast a veil of darkness across the surrounding lands, leaving Zirian and his Cuckoo companion to uncover what happened.
Getting through this strange setting means running, jumping, grinding, grappling and gliding across a succession of platforming environments. The design draws on the broad tradition of 3D platform adventures, while its presentation gives the game a distinct mechanical-fantasy identity.

Rails, floating islands and giant machinery
Several of Duskfade’s set pieces will feel recognisable to fans of action platformers. Zirian can ride rails through expansive areas, while other challenges involve crossing broken walls suspended above deep drops or leaping between vertical shafts to climb towards hidden areas.

The world also includes islands suspended in the sky, rooftops above lively villages and enormous rotating gears built into the scenery. Far-off bosses add danger to the spectacle, attacking with weapons mounted on their arms.

That combination of movement, exploration and theatrical environments gives Duskfade the kind of variety that suits players who enjoy discovering every route through a level. It also makes the game an interesting prospect for fans of arcade and retro-gaming news.
What “clockpunk” means for Duskfade
Weird Beluga describes the game’s visual style as “clockpunk”. The term captures its blend of machinery, gears and fantastical landscapes, while helping distinguish the project from the classic 3D platformers that inspired its approach.
These environments are designed to reward close inspection without abandoning momentum. There is plenty to investigate, but the action keeps moving, creating a balance between searching through each area and pressing forward through its hazards.

Release platforms and date
Duskfade is scheduled to launch on 13 August for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X.
It will not replace the eventual experience of Kingdom Hearts 4, particularly after the latest gameplay trailer renewed interest in Sora and the rest of the cast. However, its combination of magical scenery, kinetic traversal and clockwork architecture could make it a compelling platformer to play while waiting.
For players considering a dedicated setup for colourful action games, RETROCADE’s arcade machines provide a larger home-gaming format, while bartop arcades suit rooms where space is limited.
