Rust’s August force wipe arrives with the Power Trip update, changing how players pursue electricity, crude oil and control of the island’s most valuable monuments.

The update makes access to power and crude oil more straightforward, but it also gives major landmarks a much greater strategic role. Groups that secure Dome, Water Treatment Plant, Airfield, Launch Site and Power Plant can gain important advantages throughout the wipe.

Power Trip launched on Thursday after players tracked changes through the Staging Branch and commit logs. Alongside the regular weekly cosmetics, the store now includes the Bar Games DLC and Stone Sculpture.

Stone Sculpture lets players use a cursor to shape a block of stone into their own creations. The Bar Games DLC adds a jukebox and social mini-games, including pool, darts and tic-tac-toe.

How Power Trip changes key monuments

Players quickly moved towards the landmarks expected to matter most later in the wipe. Each location now offers a different reason to compete for control.

  • Power Plant: Heavy Fuses can activate the Power Plant and bring electricity to the island. With every fuse installed, the Green Recycler returns to 60% efficiency and works faster, while Red Recyclers become available at 75% efficiency.
  • Launch Site: An Aiming Module, previously called the MLRS Aiming Module, can be used with the computer at Launch Site. This brings down a satellite packed with loot.
  • Dome: Once the Power Plant is powered and the switch at Small or Large Oil Rig is activated, players can use a Tanker vehicle to extract crude oil at Dome. Activating both oil-rig switches allows even more crude oil to be pumped.
  • Water Treatment Plant: After the Power Plant is online, players can place a gear in each of two gearboxes at Water Treatment Plant and turn them. Filling the tank sends water through the pipes positioned along the road.
  • Airfield: With Power Plant electricity running, Airfield terminals can increase the island’s airdrop fall rate or summon a Chinook at the site.

Additional benefits from restored power

The monument changes are the headline feature, but partial Power Plant activation also unlocks useful benefits. Players can power the Supermarket’s freezer to store food safely and draw electricity from powerline poles fitted with transformers.

Why solo players are concerned

Not everyone in the Rust community supports the direction of the August 2026 update. Some players believe the new systems favour clans and larger groups, leaving solo survivors at a disadvantage.

Even so, the wipe offers solo players opportunities to challenge established groups. A well-timed attack on the Power Plant, followed by careful use of its electricity and Heavy Fuses, could let smaller teams benefit from systems intended to reward monument control.
