Beast of Reincarnation, the latest action RPG from Pokémon developer Game Freak, has launched to a mixed reception. Technical problems and several design frustrations have prompted the studio to promise a programme of “continuous updates”.

In a statement shared on X, Game Freak thanked players for trying the game and said it was taking their feedback seriously. The first patch is expected within the next week, although the studio has not provided a specific release date.

The upcoming update is set to adjust the camera, address general bugs, make Performance mode the default setting and enlarge the game’s text. Game Freak also plans to refine the story’s pacing, with further narrative adjustments expected in later updates.

Small text is a major complaint

Text size has become one of the clearest complaints from players. As players have pointed out, reading the game from a couch can require considerable eye strain when the television is several metres away.

Making Performance mode the default should also give players a more consistent starting point, while the camera changes may help address complaints about how the action is presented. The studio has indicated that the fixes will continue beyond this first patch.

Mixed response from critics and players

The game’s critical response has been uneven. Reviewers have praised its energetic action and substantial RPG systems, but have also argued that its identity is obscured by ideas borrowed from other prominent games of the past decade.

Player sentiment has followed a similar pattern. Beast of Reincarnation currently has about 1,700 “mixed” user reviews on Steam. One reviewer described it as a cheaper-feeling version of Stellar Blade being sold at a premium AAA price, while another account said the comparison was difficult to dismiss after roughly a dozen hours with the game.

Players can report bugs

Fictions, the game’s publisher, provides a feedback form on its support site for reporting bugs and other issues. That gives players a direct channel for problems that may not be covered by the first update, including complaints about the dog interfering with exploration.
