August begins with a busy release schedule, including several high-profile games and one unusually inventive military simulation. While Beast of Reincarnation and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls are likely to attract plenty of attention, IRON NEST: Heavy Turret Simulator deserves a closer look from fans of tactile strategy and unusual arcade-inspired controls.
The alternate-history artillery game places you inside a dieselpunk spider-tank. Your role is to support troops on the front line by striking enemy positions with heavy bombardment. Orders and battlefield reports from commanders and soldiers provide the information needed to decide where and when to fire.
Execution is deliberately hands-on. Players use detailed analogue controls to calculate and adjust each shot, turning every operation into a careful process rather than a straightforward point-and-fire exercise. The game’s earlier Steam demo stood out during June’s otherwise disappointing Next Fest, making its full release one to watch this week.
Its methodical approach may appeal to players who enjoy physical controls, light-gun shooters and other hands-on experiences. RETROCADE’s arcade light guns and broader arcade machine collection offer related ways to bring tactile gaming into a home setup.
