Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiered on July 31, making it the longest-running Spider-Man film franchise under Sam Raimi’s previous record. With Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars approaching, Peter Parker’s place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is becoming less certain.
Here’s what is known about a possible fifth Spider-Man film, Peter’s next appearance, Miles Morales and a potential change of web-slinger.
Has Spider-Man 5 been confirmed?
Not yet. Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have not announced a direct sequel to Brand New Day. A brief post-credits moment does suggest, however, that Spider-Man still has an important part to play in the MCU.

Where could Spider-Man appear next?
Tom Holland does not appear to be among the large cast announced for Avengers: Doomsday. If that remains the case, Peter Parker may not return until Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for release on December 17, 2027.
The film is based on Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić’s 2015 comic miniseries, in which heroes from multiple realities are brought together to fight on a planet called Battleworld. That possibility fits the post-credits scene: the Spidey Tracker app created by Ned Leeds, played by Jacob Batalon, detects Spider-Man on a distant planet.
Secret Wars brings together characters from different universes, an approach that can connect worlds including those of the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. The comic event also introduced Miles Morales, an alternate-universe Spider-Man who remained after the multiverse was restored and was later mentored by Peter Parker.
Miles has become a major character through his animated trilogy, which began with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018. He has not yet appeared in a live-action film, but Secret Wars could provide a natural way for the MCU to move from Peter to Miles.
Tom Holland discussed succession plans in a recent interview, saying they had been developing for five years. Holland has also expressed interest in bringing Morales to the screen and mentoring him, similar to Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark mentoring Peter.
There may still be room for one more Peter Parker story. Producers of Brand New Day have suggested that Peter could have a final adventure involving Venom before stepping away from the role.
When could Spider-Man 5 arrive?
No release date has been announced for a fifth Spider-Man film. Sony is scheduled to release Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse on June 18, 2027, while an animated Venom film from Final Destination: Bloodlines directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein is in development and remains years away.
Marvel presented a film slate running through 2029 at San Diego Comic-Con. It includes Black Panther 3, Shang-Chi 2 and The Fantastic Four 2, but no new Spider-Man feature.
The gap between Spider-Man: No Way Home and Spider-Man: Brand New Day was four and a half years. If a similar wait follows, audiences may not see Holland complete Peter’s handover to a new Spider-Man until around 2030.
