Gen Con 2026 established the event as Wizards of the Coast’s major annual showcase for Dungeons & Dragons. During the D&D Vision Keynote 2027 presentation, hosted by Baldur’s Gate 3 actor Theo Solomon, the company outlined new tabletop books, digital tools, video games and crossover projects.
The announcements cover everything from returning campaign settings and mature fantasy to a rebuilt D&D Beyond, official third-party adventures and an expanding programme of licensed universes. Here are the key developments for players and Dungeon Masters.
D&D Icons brings influential creators back

Wizards of the Coast announced D&D Icons, an initiative intended to pair prominent creators from the game’s history with its current design team. Franchise creative director Kara Kenna said the programme would use those creators’ distinctive voices to shape future stories.
Joe Manganiello will act as chief creative officer. The initial group includes Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the creators associated with Dragonlance, and R.A. Salvatore, author of the Legend of Drizzt novels.
Luke Gygax is the first collaborator. He will work on Greyhawk material that can draw from unpublished notes left by his father, D&D co-creator Gary Gygax. Wizards described the programme as an opening step that could eventually involve other major figures from the game’s past.
Third-party publishers will produce official adventures

Wizards also wants to give more of D&D’s long-running campaign settings regular support. Rather than relying primarily on its internal team, the company will commission established publishers to create official books.
Ghostfire Gaming’s Ravenloft release is scheduled for 2027 and will incorporate the Domains of Dread featured in Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. Visionary Productions will follow with an Eberron adventure about the Lord of Blades in 2028, while Kobold Press will develop new Forgotten Realms content.
These projects will be physical and digital D&D releases distributed through Wizards’ normal channels, not lightly affiliated Dungeon Masters Guild supplements. The intended model is at least one major adventure or anthology contribution for each supported setting every year, although the exact format may differ.
D&D Beyond gets new group-finding and preparation tools
Finding a regular group remains a barrier for many players. Wizards has launched a new looking-for-group hub at dndbeyond.com/lfg.
The hub will initially combine three options: a worldwide event finder for games posted by participating Wizards Play Network stores, a limited-time StartPlaying offer giving new D&D players a first session for 99 cents, and a dedicated LFG channel on the official D&D Discord server.
D&D Beyond is also due to receive rebuilt search and Dungeon Master tools, including a scene manager, map pins, bookmarks and encounter management that can work without opening Maps or another virtual tabletop.
A rebuilt D&D Beyond mobile app is planned for 2027

The mobile app will be redesigned for people playing around the same physical table. Wizards says the aim is to reduce administrative friction without replacing books, miniatures or the social experience of tabletop play.
The system is based on a rules engine developed over almost two years. Its longer-term purpose is to understand and automate complex D&D rules, while an early version is expected in 2027 and will gain further features throughout the year.
Warlock confirms Tasha as Kaatri’s patron

Invoke Studios’ third-person action game Warlock has identified the patron behind protagonist Kaatri’s supernatural abilities. Tasha, also known as the archfey Zybilna or Iggwilv the Witch-Queen, is the confirmed patron, although the developers have not assigned Kaatri a specific Pact or subclass.
Tasha was created by Gary Gygax in Greyhawk. She was raised by the primordial witch Baba Yaga and became one of the multiverse’s most powerful mages. Kaatri may therefore be associated with the Archfey pact, though the action-adventure format is not expected to reproduce D&D mechanics exactly.
Tricia Helfer will voice Kaatri and Maggie Robertson will voice Tasha. The first gameplay footage is scheduled to appear at Gamescom 2026. Readers interested in the character’s tabletop inspiration can explore The Archfey pact.
Arcana Unleashed expands high-level play

Due on 15 September, Arcana Unleashed is the main release for D&D’s Season of Magic. It focuses on the game’s eight schools of magic and includes eight subclasses, including two new ones, 10 backgrounds, 29 feats, 33 spells, six magical group patrons, nine magical factions, 47 magic items, rules for evolving magic items, 19 magical creatures and a short adventure for first-level characters.
The companion volume, Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall, is a full campaign for characters from levels 11 to 20, an unusually well-supported range for an official D&D adventure. Described as a darker counterpart to the colourful main book, it sends characters to Thay on a magical espionage mission against Szass Tam, the lich ruler seeking to empower his undead armies with demonic forces.
Deadfall includes a detailed Thay gazetteer, information about the Red Wizards and their territories, 14 magic items and six new stat blocks, including one for Szass Tam.
Greyhawk returns with Crown of the Witch Queen

Greyhawk will receive its first major current-edition adventure in late 2027. Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen is a 160-page campaign about Drelnza, the vampiric daughter of Tasha, Iggwilv and Zybilna.
Wizards describes the adventure as a villain-led story with an operatic and archetypal visual direction. It will launch in physical and digital formats alongside a Greyhawk map pack and Dungeon Master screen. It is also the first setting supported by D&D Icons, giving Luke Gygax and Gary Gygax’s unpublished notes a potential role in Greyhawk’s wider return.
Dark Sun leads the mature Season of Survival

Dark Sun is returning as D&D’s first mature-rated campaign setting. Its books will be labelled for players aged 18 and over and sold shrink-wrapped because they contain bloodshed, nudity and sexuality.
The setting anchors the Season of Survival, beginning in February 2027. The nearly 500-page line includes Blood and Power, a player-focused expansion; Edge of Oblivion, a Dungeon Master setting guide; and a limited-edition Player’s Handbook with alternate Dark Sun artwork. A map pack and Dungeon Master screen are also planned.
The line formally introduces the Psion, D&D’s second new class for 5th Edition. Optional rules will make combat more brutal, including decapitation mechanics, while accompanying guidance will help groups choose how much mature content suits their campaign.
World of Warcraft starts Universes Beyond for D&D

Wizards is extending the Universes Beyond crossover concept into D&D. The first release is a Dungeons & Dragons x World of Warcraft campaign setting, launching on 17 November with early access from 3 November.
The 256-page book contains rules for 11 new species, including every playable World of Warcraft race and several variants, plus nine subclasses that adapt traditional D&D classes to Azeroth. It also includes 26 magic items, 60 spells, 23 factions, 50 monsters, seven dungeons and 30 dungeon boss stat blocks, along with rules for professions, mounts and companion creatures.
A separate map pack provides a digital Icecrown Citadel adventure for five level-16 characters progressing to level 20 and facing Arthas, the Lich King. Hasbro will also release miniatures of Arthas and Illidan. Wizards says World of Warcraft is the beginning of an ongoing crossover line, balanced against original D&D settings.
Star Wars is scheduled for D&D’s Season of Rebellion

The final major reveal was a Star Wars crossover. Details remain limited, but Wizards confirmed that the second Universes Beyond release will focus on Star Wars during the Season of Rebellion, currently planned for the second half of 2027.
