Super Mario Sunshine will join the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics library on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 13, 2026. Access is included for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members.
A divisive GameCube adventure returns
Released for GameCube, Super Mario Sunshine took the series in a different direction from the more traditional 3D platforming found in earlier adventures. Its tropical setting, Isle Delfino, is affected by pollution and grime, leaving Mario to investigate the mess while completing environmental puzzles.
Mario’s main tool is FLUDD, a water-spraying device that can wash away dirt and help him navigate the island. FLUDD also speaks, adding another vocal guide to Mario’s adventure. The game’s focus on cleaning, movement and environmental interaction made it one of the more debated entries in the franchise.
Nintendo’s announcement says that players will clean up a polluted Isle Delfino with FLUDD when Super Mario Sunshine arrives for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members on August 13.

Possible improvements on Switch 2
The announcement did not show gameplay or confirm technical changes. However, the other GameCube titles added to the Switch 2 library have included upgrades such as higher resolutions. A similar presentation would make sense for Super Mario Sunshine, particularly because an enhanced version was previously available on Switch through the now-discontinued Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection.

GameCube library reaches 10 titles
The addition will bring the Nintendo GameCube collection on Switch Online to 10 games. Some players will welcome the chance to revisit one of the series’ less appreciated adventures on Nintendo’s newest hardware, while others may still hope for a complete remake. Nintendo has revisited its major releases in multiple formats before, so a future remake cannot be ruled out.
