Gen Con 2026 has delivered major tabletop announcements from Wizards of the Coast, Darrington Press and other publishers, spanning projects connected to World of Warcraft, Star Wars and more. Among the most notable reveals for fans of actual-play role-playing is a new Critical Role campaign built around Daggerheart.

Darrington Press, Critical Role’s tabletop publishing arm, used the event to outline upcoming Daggerheart accessories and collaborative projects with Roll & Play Press and Foundry Virtual Tabletop. The headline announcement, however, was Reign of the Weredragon, a new actual-play miniseries.

What is Reign of the Weredragon?

Reign of the Weredragon will combine the atmosphere of classic fairy tales with a surprisingly unsettling setting. The cast has not yet been announced, but the series will be led by Chris Perkins, Darrington Press’s creative director and a former Dungeons & Dragons designer and creative director.

Perkins brings substantial experience as an on-camera Game Master. His previous work includes Wizards of the Coast’s official actual-play series Dice, Camera, Action, as well as the long-running Acquisitions Incorporated campaigns with Penny Arcade co-founders Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik.

A Daggerheart setting brought to the screen

Perkins co-created Reign of the Weredragon as one of the campaign settings featured in Hope & Fear, the first expansion for Daggerheart. The upcoming show should therefore provide viewers and players with a direct introduction to the expansion’s new material.

Critical Role already supports a broad schedule of full campaigns and shorter series. One current example is Age of Umbra: Sallowlands, a gothic and eerie Daggerheart adventure featuring performers including Abubakar Salim and Jennifer English. That series is scheduled to continue until mid-August.

When will the new campaign begin?

No release date had been announced for Reign of the Weredragon at the time of the reveal. The available details suggest it may run as a miniseries alongside Critical Role’s main campaign, which uses the Dungeons & Dragons system, but that scheduling relationship has not been confirmed.

Until the new series arrives, Critters have further episodes of Age of Umbra: Sallowlands to follow on Twitch, YouTube and Beacon.tv. Its next episode is scheduled for 7 p.m. PDT, while Campaign 4 is set to return on 27 August.
