August 2026 is an unusually quiet month for Nintendo’s own releases after two new games and two Switch 2 Editions arrived in July. However, Switch 2 players still have plenty to anticipate, with major ports, remasters and one especially promising indie adventure arriving throughout the month.

These five games span relaxed co-op exploration, gothic action, huge fantasy role-playing adventures and two landmark Hideo Kojima and FromSoftware releases. For more gaming news, visit the RETROCADE Arcade Blog.

1. Big Walk

Release date: 4 August 2026

House House, the Australian studio behind Untitled Goose Game, follows its mischievous breakout hit with a multiplayer exploration game built around cooperation, puzzles and physical comedy. Big Walk looks like a relaxed shared adventure, but its playful chaos gives the format plenty of character. It may be difficult to define, yet its combination of co-op problem-solving and slapstick makes it one of August’s most distinctive releases.

2. Lies of P: Complete Edition

Release date: 5 August 2026

Neowiz’s acclaimed Soulslike makes its Nintendo debut on Switch 2 in a Complete Edition containing the 2025 expansion, Overture. Lies of P reimagines the Pinocchio story as a grim gothic drama, pairing its dark setting with demanding sword-based combat. It is widely regarded as one of the strongest Soulslikes made outside FromSoftware, making this a substantial addition to the Switch 2 library.

3. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

Release date: 11 August 2026

Bethesda’s influential 2006 fantasy RPG arrives on Switch 2 after an acclaimed remaster launched for PC, PlayStation and Xbox in 2025. The central quest sends players against a cult attempting to open portals to a demonic realm, but Oblivion is best remembered for the freedom beyond its main story. Its memorable side quests, expansive world and unusual diversions—including collecting cheese—remain central to the experience.

Its open-world scale should also appeal to players who enjoy making a long-term hobby of a game, much like building a dedicated arcade machine collection.

4. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2

Release date: 27 August 2026

This collection marks the first reissue of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in 18 years. Until now, the game had remained available only on PlayStation 3. The package also includes the PSP title Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, while both games can be purchased separately.

As with much of Hideo Kojima’s work, these games combine eccentric ideas, melodrama, humour and ambitious storytelling. Their arrival gives a new audience the chance to experience two unusual and influential entries in the Metal Gear series.

5. Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition

Release date: 28 August 2026

The month’s biggest release is FromSoftware’s open-world action RPG, first released in 2022. Elden Ring is widely regarded as a modern classic and represents a major point in director Hidetaka Miyazaki’s progression from Demon’s Souls through the Dark Souls series.

The Switch 2 version has taken time to reach the required standard, but recent previews have been positive. The Tarnished Edition also includes the 2024 expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, giving players the complete adventure in one package. Those who prefer physical controls and dedicated play spaces can browse RETROCADE’s upright arcade range or explore a more compact bartop arcade.
