Dave & Busters is set to expand its family entertainment footprint by acquiring Main Event, strengthening its position in the competitive US arcade and entertainment-centre market.
A major family entertainment acquisition
The announced purchase is valued at $835 million, with the transaction scheduled for completion by the end of the year. Main Event CEO Chris Morris is expected to lead the combined company after the deal closes.

Two brands with different audiences
At the time of the announcement, Dave & Busters listed 146 venues, while Main Event listed 49 locations. Those figures were counted from each company’s location pages and may have differed slightly as listings changed.
Both businesses have a substantial presence in Texas, where each company began. Their customer groups also differ: Main Event has traditionally focused on families with younger children, while Dave & Busters has generally aimed its offer at young adults.
The arrangement follows Chuck E. Cheese’s earlier acquisition of Peter Piper Pizza, a move that further consolidated the large US family entertainment centre sector before the pandemic.
What could change for arcade games?
The companies indicated that the two brands would retain their existing names and distinct areas of focus. That leaves open questions about how the acquisition may influence arcade-game purchasing and location strategies.
Dave & Busters had paused some game-development activity during the pandemic. As those efforts resume, future Dave & Busters-exclusive games—whether released temporarily or permanently—could potentially reach Main Event venues as well, although no such rollout was confirmed.
