SNK’s Samurai Shodown V Perfect is returning to arcades through exA-Arcadia, bringing the classic one-on-one fighter back to more than just the Japanese market. Pre-orders have opened in Japan, with worldwide orders scheduled to begin on 10 September 2022.
The release is based on the version originally created for Neo Geo MVS hardware. It also includes additions and changes absent from the 2018 console release, including restored blood and Overkill fatalities. Players using the console port or an unofficial version will not have access to the complete set of enhancements.
Three Samurai Shodown V Perfect kit options
To mark the platform’s first SNK release, exA-Arcadia is offering three purchase options: a Complete Limited Edition, a Limited Edition Software Kit and a Standard Edition. Buyers planning a dedicated cabinet can also explore RETROCADE’s arcade machine buying guide when considering their setup.
The Japanese announcement uses the title Samurai Spirits Zero Special. Kit contents and branding may differ between the Japanese and worldwide versions.
Complete Limited Edition
The Complete Limited Edition includes everything supplied with the Limited Edition, along with a specially decorated and signed exA-Arcadia board system created by artist Shiroh Ohno.
Production is limited, making this the collector-focused option. Fulfilment may also take longer than for the other kits; the earlier Complete Limited Edition for Touhou Perfect Sakura Fantastica remained available for pre-order without having shipped at the time of the announcement. Limited Edition Software Kit
The Limited Edition Software Kit is aimed at buyers who want the collectible items without purchasing the decorated board system. The Japanese kit includes an A1 poster, standard and Vewlix cabinet artwork, game instructions, a blood-red game cartridge, and an exA-branded Sanwa joystick and button set.
It also includes a character pop standee. Earlier Limited Edition releases allowed buyers to choose from three designs, but the large cast in Samurai Shodown V Perfect means a standee has been produced for every character. Customers can still select only one, allowing operators to choose the character most likely to attract attention at their location.
Each standee measures 180 centimetres, or 70 inches, tall. For the US release, Kyoshiro, Yuifen and Gaoh are unavailable outside Japan because their designs are too large. The LE kit contains the current software-kit information.
Standard Edition
The Standard Edition provides the game cartridge and the usual artwork package, including an A1 poster and moveset posters. Quantities are less restricted than those of the two Limited Edition options.
Pricing and release timing
US pricing is listed at $4,485 for the Complete Limited Edition, $1,850 for the Limited Edition and $1,494 for the Standard Edition. Freight is additional on each order. The three listings are available as the Complete Kit, LE kit and Standard kit. European customers can order through Red Sun Systems.
The intended launch and shipping date is 29 September 2022. That places it immediately after P-47 Aces Mk. II and Astro Ninja Man EXA, both scheduled to begin shipping on 28 September.
