VRstudios will introduce the single-player Fury Solo virtual-reality cabinet at IAAPA Expo 2022, giving operators a compact, unattended way to run Football Frenzy, the company’s American football VR experience.

The announcement follows the 2021 debut of the two-player Fury Duo, which launched with Hoops Madness, a competitive basketball game. VRstudios has also recently brought Football Frenzy to arcades as part of its Real Sports VR range.

Familiar Fury hardware, configured for one player

Fury Solo uses the same cabinet design seen earlier in 2022 with VRsenal’s Rhymatic 2. VRsenal manufactures both Fury cabinet variants, while VRstudios licenses the platform for its own content. At present, that content is centred on the Real Sports VR line.

The single-player format is intended to lower the entry cost for location-based entertainment VR. The system was described as costing less than US$30,000, while many commercial VR attractions sit in the US$50,000–$100,000 range.

That lower price and smaller footprint come with compromises: Fury Solo does not support a second player and lacks a self-retracting cable gantry for the VR equipment. It is nevertheless designed to operate without an attendant, which may appeal to venues seeking a sports-themed VR attraction beyond golf.

Football Frenzy expands the Real Sports VR line

Football Frenzy is presented as a VR quarterback arcade experience. VRstudios said research found that 51% of Americans identify as professional-football fans, while a survey of location-based entertainment operators found that 79% had no football game in their arcades.

Operators can license both Football Frenzy and Hoops Madness, allowing the Fury platform to support football and basketball. VRstudios therefore positions the system as a multi-sport VR attraction rather than a single-game cabinet.

The “Real Sports” name may remind Atari fans of a number of “RealSports” branded games released for the Atari 2600. The VRstudios trademark is unrelated to Atari and those earlier titles.

IAAPA 2022 debut details

Fury Solo was scheduled to debut at IAAPA Expo in Orlando from 15–18 November 2022. VRstudios did not have its own booth; the attraction was presented through Creative Works at booths 4271 and 4072, located closer to the inflatables and food area rather than the arcade pavilion.

Attendees could experience the cabinet and place orders at the show. VRstudios described the IAAPA offer as tradeshow pricing, without publishing a specific amount in the announcement. The Fury Solo joins the existing two-player Fury Duo in the company’s range.

For operators comparing commercial attractions with conventional arcade machine buying considerations, the unattended operating model is one of the cabinet’s central selling points. The platform is aimed at venues wanting a broader mix of games while keeping staffing requirements low.

VRstudios’ wider arcade focus

VRstudios develops turnkey virtual-reality systems, immersive experiences and attractions specifically for the location-based entertainment market. The company says it has built a large catalogue of original LBE VR experiences, alongside custom projects using high-profile intellectual property and branding.

VRstudios CEO and chairman Kevin Vitale said the company was developing arcade-easy VR attractions for operators seeking a broad mixture of games and amusement options. He also pointed to the Fury range’s two sports titles, single-player and multiplayer configurations, and promotional pricing as ways to support future expansion.
