Asphalt Moto Blitz DX, a new motorcycle-focused arcade racer from Wahlap Technology, is scheduled to make its public debut at GTI Asia China Expo 2023 in Guangzhou from 11–13 September 2023.
The machine follows the arcade adaptation of Asphalt 9: Legends, produced through a collaboration between IGS, Gameloft and Wahlap. This new game draws from the motorcycle content introduced in Asphalt 8: Airborne, while adapting the formula for arcade play.
Like its predecessor, Asphalt Moto Blitz DX reshapes the original series for location-based entertainment. The emphasis here is on motorcycle racing, with computer-controlled riders and six supercars joining the competition.
A twin motorcycle racing cabinet
The cabinet is configured as two linked player units sharing one marquee and coin box. Each player gets a moulded swivel-seat motorcycle, with a design that differs from Wahlap’s Storm Rider 2 hardware.
Each seat is fitted to a three-axis motion base and includes a 49-inch screen, fan, camera and what the specifications call a “vibrating horn”. This appears to refer to bass or subwoofer feedback built into the seat, although the supplied material does not clarify the exact implementation.
The cabinet also lists a “Motion Camera” feature and provides one additional motion axis compared with Storm Rider 2. Two twin units can be connected, supporting competitive sessions for up to four players.
Bikes, courses and online features
Players can choose from 14 motorcycles and four game modes. The game also includes customisable suits and avatars, with the supplied information stating that there are 7.5 million possible combinations.
The course selection includes 12 tracks, with three additional courses available when the machines are connected online. Online access also unlocks another bike and further character customisation options. In China, the system is described as using WeChat; international connectivity plans have not been confirmed.
Nitro, stunts and career progression
Racing centres on building nitro reserves through jumps and drifting. Riders can also attack rival vehicles by performing a spin, triggered by pressing the brake twice.
The game documentation also describes a career mode. It is divided into five leagues with rising difficulty and contains 24 races. Each race has three objectives, while motorcycle upgrades improve the bike’s attributes and help players progress.
Completing all 24 races perfectly is described as the route to upgrading the motorcycle to its maximum level.
Arcade distribution remains unconfirmed
GTI Asia China Expo 2023 will provide the first announced showcase for Asphalt Moto Blitz DX. There was no Western distribution announcement at the time of its planned debut.
Wahlap has previously worked with a range of arcade operators and distributors. Asphalt 9: Legends Arcade was handled with LAI Games, while Sega was carrying Storm Rider 2. Wahlap was also due to attend IAAPA 2023, which was expected to provide more information about potential partners for the motorcycle racer.
