Fighting-game fans have several new arcade releases to watch, with Arcana Heart 3 Xtend, Omen of Sorrow: Arising Chaos and Phantom Breaker: Omnia all presented as upcoming additions to the exA-Arcadia platform. The announcements emerged during IAAPA 2023, where the company showcased its growing interest in a genre that remains central to arcade gaming.

exA-Arcadia did not operate its own IAAPA booth, but one of its cabinets was available at the AVS Companies booth. The company has previously been strongly associated with shoot ’em ups, while these three titles demonstrate a broader push into competitive fighting games. For Australian operators and collectors following the latest arcade news, the releases are worth keeping on the radar.

Arcana Heart 3 Xtend

The Arcana Heart series is known for its anime presentation, an entirely female cast and a notably deep fighting system. The franchise has a following in Japan, while Arcana Heart 2 was previously sold to US arcades by Andamiro USA.

Although the mechanics can take time to master, the game offers a substantial roster and plenty of depth for experienced players. No precise launch date was announced, but the stated plan was for the game to ship by the end of 2023.

Operators interested in adding a fighter to an existing venue setup can also compare the practical considerations in RETROCADE’s arcade machine buying guide.

Omen of Sorrow: Arising Chaos

The first of the two newer announcements was Omen of Sorrow: Arising Chaos, an updated version of a fighting game that had already been available for several years. Its presentation immediately stands out: among the exA-Arcadia games shown, it was regarded as having particularly polished visuals, with a stronger 3D look than many other fighters on the platform.

The combat also made a strong first impression. Move lists were not available during the demonstration, so the controls and techniques had to be discovered through experimentation. That made the session accessible while still leaving plenty to learn.

The game was scheduled for release in 2024 and was expected to carry a lower price than other exA-Arcadia fighting-game kits, many of which had sold for approximately $1,500 per kit. A product page is available on exA-Arcadia’s Omen of Sorrow listing.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia

Phantom Breaker already has an established fanbase, and Omnia is the latest edition in the series. For newcomers, the controls are approachable, with each character appearing to use a weapon and having access to their own “Omnia Styles”. The game does not explain those styles in detail during play, presenting them primarily through the square icons shown in its promotional material.

Compared with Arcana Heart, the system feels less complex and easier to pick up. Its visual style combines three-dimensional backgrounds with two-dimensional characters, recalling the broad approach of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 while giving it a contemporary finish. Ease of play is a key part of its appeal.

Phantom Breaker: Omnia was expected to launch around the same time as Omen of Sorrow, with a similar price point. The latest-edition details can be found on the official Omnia product page.

A mystery fighter is also in development

There was one more fighter in development for exA-Arcadia, planned for release in 2024 and connected to a major intellectual property. Its identity had not yet been revealed, but it was described as the biggest name ever associated with the platform.

That project was separate from another fighting game demonstrated at Amusement Expo rather than IAAPA. The latter was expected to appeal more directly to hardcore players, suggesting that exA-Arcadia’s upcoming fighter range could offer something for both newcomers and dedicated competition-focused audiences.

For those building or maintaining a home setup, the choice of controls and display can be just as important as the software. RETROCADE’s range of arcade parts can help with joystick, button and monitor-related projects, while upright arcade cabinets provide a traditional format for fighting games.

These announcements give exA-Arcadia a stronger presence in the fighting-game space, with one established series and two titles aimed at different levels of player experience. The eventual release timing, pricing and operator availability will determine how widely they appear in arcades.
