Perfect Pour is an independently developed arcade game from DSM Arcade, created by Dan Fessler for the growing barcade market. Its planned early 2025 launch brings an original take on a familiar bar-side activity.

What is Perfect Pour?

Fessler conceived the game while thinking about new experiences for venues built around social drinking and arcade play. Classic bar-themed games such as Midway’s Tapper remain popular, but limited supply makes an original alternative an appealing proposition.

In Perfect Pour, customers arrive with empty glasses while the player works the taps. The objective is to fill each glass precisely to the top: too little loses points, while overfilling creates a spill. The controls use joysticks designed to operate like real beer taps, making the central mechanic immediately understandable while leaving plenty of room to improve accuracy and speed.

The game is designed around an “easy to learn, difficult to master” structure and is intended for players of all ages. It is also positioned as an arcade-exclusive experience rather than a home release.

Gameplay features

  • Tap-style joysticks provide intuitive physical controls.
  • Pitchers, blown kegs, half pours and perfectionist customers create additional challenges.
  • Boss battles and mini-games add variety to the serving action.
  • Stages include breweries, patio bars, pubs and festivals.
  • Family-friendly Soda Pop Mode replaces alcoholic drinks with colourful non-alcoholic alternatives.

Soda Pop Mode gives operators a way to present the game in venues that prefer non-alcoholic themes. While dedicated soda-focused arcades are relatively uncommon, the setting could still be useful for those businesses.

February 2025 launch projection

Perfect Pour was not shown at IAAPA 2024, but the concept gained attention after Bay Tek showed off a game which uses the same basic idea, without the additional features planned for DSM Arcade’s title.

The latest trailer provides a closer look at the game’s tap-based action:

At the time of the announcement, Fessler was projecting a February 2025 launch. Operators could pre-order the game for $4899. Venue owners comparing an arcade machine for a commercial space will need to consider floor area, audience and the type of experience their customers expect.

A focused fit for bar arcades

The game appears especially suited to bar arcades and retro-themed venues looking for a new attraction with an instantly recognisable social premise. These businesses often prioritise retro machines, affordable retro remakes, alley bowlers and pinball, while equipment priced above $10,000 can be difficult to justify. An independently produced title at a lower price point may therefore offer a more approachable way to add something new.

Family Entertainment Centres generally pursue larger, highly visible attractions, including heavily illuminated cabinets and machines standing 11 feet tall or more. That can make a smaller upright game less suitable for the FEC market. A future deluxe version could broaden its appeal, but the initial concept is aimed at a more specific venue niche.

For businesses assessing the available formats, upright arcades can suit venues with limited floor space, while commercial arcade machines provide a wider comparison point. Owners planning a more compact installation can also explore bartop arcade options alongside full-size cabinets.

With precise physical gameplay, a family-friendly soda setting and a clear barcade focus, Perfect Pour offers a distinctive alternative to traditional retro line-ups. Its projected February 2025 release made it a notable independent arcade title to watch.
