LAI Games has started shipping Kaiju Rampage: The World of Monster Eye in North America, bringing a new giant-monster light-gun experience to arcades. The release also gives an established Asian series a fresh identity for this market.
Monster Eye gets a new beginning
Kaiju Rampage is the third sit-down shooter in a series created by Taiwanese developer IGS, with China’s Wahlap responsible for the hardware development. The earlier titles were released under the Monster Eye name and achieved some North American sales, although their reach was smaller than games supported by major manufacturers such as Raw Thrills or Sega.
Limited distribution and marketing meant the previous Monster Eye games were easy to miss. The new subtitle, The World of Monster Eye, signals the connection between those releases and this latest cabinet.
In Asia, the game remains known as Monster Eye 3. For North American arcades, LAI Games is presenting it as a soft reboot: the same fictional universe receives a new name and a fresh launch. It is also LAI’s first gun game since Outnumbered in 2020, with both titles designed exclusively for arcade venues.
Giant monsters and high-score action
The game was first shown publicly in October before appearing as a playable attraction at IAAPA 2024. Players take control of characters responding to a worldwide outbreak of giant monsters, with cities under attack and a small support team providing occasional interaction.
The central gameplay is straightforward: shoot the creatures, survive the destruction and chase a higher score. The total number of levels has not been confirmed, but LAI Games lists approximately 40 minutes of gameplay. The footage below shows 12 minutes captured at IAAPA 2024.
What comes with the cabinet?
The current cabinet includes two mounted guns with integrated dynamic LED lighting, adding visual effects during play. It is built around a motion base and a 65-inch 4K display, supported by 5.1-channel surround sound.
A gesture sensor tracks player body and hand movements. A second sensor at the rear detects people walking past the machine, prompting the cabinet to flash and produce a roar designed to attract attention on the arcade floor.
A substantial environmental arcade machine
Kaiju Rampage is notable as one of the relatively few environmental game cabinets available in recent years. Its large footprint, moving platform and attention-grabbing presentation place it firmly in the full-size arcade category rather than the home-oriented market.
