Sega’s rhythm-game lineup has been attracting plenty of attention, from maimai DX and its planned US release to its recent appearance at Amusement Expo 2025. The company’s other major arcade rhythm brand, Chunithm, also shares clear connections with the mobile phenomenon Hatsune Miku: Project Sekai – Colorful Stage!
That combination inspired a colourful new arcade concept: Project Sekai X Chunithm: Colorful Stage Hyper Arcade. The supposed project would bring Sega’s touch-based arcade play together with the characters, music and presentation of Project Sekai.
Project Sekai meets Chunithm
Project Sekai has been a major Sega and Colorful Palette project since 2020. Built around the globally recognised Vocaloid performer Hatsune Miku, Colorful Stage! is primarily a mobile rhythm game with some gameplay similarities to Chunithm. The two properties have also crossed over through in-game collaboration content.
The franchise has grown well beyond its mobile origins, including its own movie recently. Sega’s earlier major Miku rhythm-game effort, Project DIVA, also received prominent arcade versions developed by AM2. Until this fictional announcement, Project Sekai itself had not received a dedicated arcade release.

Release plans—and the important catch
The supposed information claimed that testing would begin in Japan on April 31, followed by a release the next year. It also suggested possible launches across North America, Europe, Asia and South America, including Brazil, where Miku has gained a noteworthy cult following!
There was one essential detail hidden behind the colourful presentation: this was an April Fools joke. The stated test date does not exist, and Sega has not officially announced Project Sekai X Chunithm: Colorful Stage Hyper Arcade. The fictional pitch was designed to combine two closely related rhythm-game properties in a way that would appeal to both arcade players and Project Sekai fans.
