Retro Arcade Remakes and Slackerz Inc. have released Food Fight Frenzy, an officially licensed Atari arcade sequel developed for competitive play in modern arcades, arcade bars and home collections.

What Is Food Fight Frenzy?

Food Fight Frenzy follows Charley Chuck as he races towards an ice cream cone, echoing the objective of Atari’s 1983 Food Fight. Chefs stand in his way, while food scattered across the playfield can be used as ammunition.

The original Food Fight arrived during the arcade industry’s downturn and received only one console port, for the Atari 7800. Apart from appearances in occasional Atari compilations and a modern-platform reboot released a few years ago, the property has largely remained out of the spotlight.

For readers exploring different cabinet formats, RETROCADE’s arcade news and gaming coverage includes further developments from the industry.

Competitive Multiplayer Gameplay

The new game retains the visual character of the original while reshaping the action around multiplayer competition. Players throw food at one another, with the goal of knocking out their opponents.

Food Fight Frenzy first appeared publicly at Midwest Gaming Classic 2024. Since then, Slackerz Inc. and Retro Arcade Remakes have been refining the project ahead of release.

Cabinet Design and Availability

The cabinet takes design cues from Atari’s 1980 Warlords cocktail cabinet. It features a new high-nit display and fresh control-panel artwork. High-nit monitors are intended to deliver strong black contrast and high resolution, helping the game’s graphics appear crisp.

The listed MSRP is $5800, with the first 10 buyers offered a special introductory price below that amount. Cabinets are ready to ship, and interested operators can email Joe at Indie Arcade Wave or Slackerz to place an order.

Food Fight Character Roster

The project also expands the Food Fight universe with additional character names:

  • Male characters: Charlie Chuck, Phil Flinger, Larry Lob and Tommy Toss.
  • Female characters: Franny Flingers, Cherry Chuck, Tammy Toss and Lori Lob.

Future Content and Locations

The cabinet has been designed to support future conversion-kit releases. Slackerz Inc. and Retro Arcade Remakes have not announced the next titles, but they intend to add more content to the platform. An upright version has not been announced and there are currently no plans to produce one.

One machine is currently installed at Starcade in St. Paul, Minnesota, where it is operating on freeplay. The cabinet’s conversion potential may also appeal to operators planning a broader arcade machine line-up.

Ice Cold Beer Remake Update

Retro Arcade Remakes’ remake of Taito’s Ice Cold Beer remains available for $5,495, plus shipping and tax. Buyers can request customised artwork for arcades, breweries and beer manufacturers when they provide an assembled art package. This option costs an additional $300–$350 and can include the glass and side artwork.

A remake of Zeke’s Peak has been teased for some time and is still listed as coming soon. Its eventual price has not been confirmed.

For operators planning maintenance or future conversions, RETROCADE also offers information on arcade parts and controls.
