Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Crystal Edition soundtrack announced

Square Enix is celebrating four decades of Final Fantasy music with a new Crystal Edition soundtrack spanning all sixteen mainline games. The collection will be released on vinyl and CD on 6 January 2027.

Music has been central to Final Fantasy since the series began in 1987. Across its mainline role-playing games and numerous spin-offs, memorable themes have helped shape major battles, character moments, friendships and farewells.

The Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Crystal Edition brings one selected track from each numbered mainline entry together in a single commemorative release. Square Enix discusses the collection’s role in the series on the official album site.

Vinyl and CD editions

Pre-orders are open through Square Enix’s Japanese storefront. The vinyl edition costs 8,000 yen plus tax, listed as approximately $51, and includes two 12-inch records. The single-disc CD costs 3,600 yen plus tax, or approximately $23.

North American and European storefronts are also expected to receive the two versions, although their listings were not available at the time of the announcement. Australian buyers should check regional ordering details before committing to a pre-order.

For collectors planning a dedicated games room, the soundtrack could sit naturally alongside an arcade machine or a compact bartop arcade. RETROCADE’s arcade news and features cover more gaming-room ideas and industry updates.
