The Scarecrow is a Chapter 3 side quest in Valor Mortis. It begins in the Fallen Village and asks you to recover two belongings from a dead soldier displayed as a scarecrow. This guide explains where to start, how to follow the crows and which rewards you can collect.

How to start The Scarecrow in Valor Mortis
After defeating General Lothaire and travelling through the Abandoned Church, you will reach the Fallen Village. From the Fields Lantern, take the path on the right. The scarecrow is positioned on your right, behind the lantern area.
Inspect the figure to discover that it is a dead soldier tied to a cross. The investigation reveals that two items are missing: a necklace and a torn pocket item. This starts the search.

Find the Lover’s Pendant
Turn around and search behind the scarecrow. At the base of the tree, loot the soldier’s body to obtain the Lover’s Pendant.
Reach the locked house
The second item is inside the unsettling house on the hill, but its front door is locked. Follow the main route through the Fallen Village until it brings you back towards the Fields Lantern. Shoot the glowing orb as you pass it, then look towards the house.
Defeat the elite Risen Grenadier and continue along the road behind him. When you reach the area with haystacks, leave the main road by taking the left-hand route instead of turning right. This leads to the house’s back door.
Collect the Letter With a Drawing
Enter the house through the rear entrance and go upstairs. On the desk beside the bed, pick up the Letter With a Drawing, the scarecrow’s second missing item.
There are also three hand grenades nearby. Collect them, then return downstairs and unbolt the front door. This opens a shortcut back to the Fields Lantern. Take both recovered items to the scarecrow’s corpse.
Follow the crows to finish the quest
Returning the items does not complete the objective immediately. Look up quickly and watch the murder of crows fly from the scarecrow towards the field behind the house.
Follow their route through the house and into the field. On the right-hand side, locate the building and climb its scaffolding to reach the upper floor.
Watch the woman’s memory inside the building. This final scene completes The Scarecrow quest.
