Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse requires a specific whip technique for one of its Works of Mercy challenges. The move is also needed to upgrade the Fallen arcana, a mana-consuming spell that can be improved with Blessing points.
Blessing points come from completing Works of Mercy tasks, which ask Rose to use different spells and abilities in particular situations. After defeating the first boss, Fallen, you can begin working towards the Holy Cross upgrade by learning this attack.
This guide reflects a build that was still in development when the accompanying screenshots were captured.

How to perform the whip attack
Fallen gives Rose a whip after the boss fight. Although the whip is not a conventional weapon, it enables a special attack with whichever weapon Rose currently has equipped.
- Use the command to throw the whip towards an enemy.
- Press the attack button before the whip connects.
- If the timing is correct, Rose will propel herself towards the target and perform the enhanced attack.
The timing window is brief, so press the two commands in quick succession. A successful whip attack is marked by a yellow aura around Rose and a distinct attack animation.

The best enemies for practice
The technique works against any enemy, but stationary targets make the timing easier to learn. Skeleton archers on the Paris Streets map are a useful choice because they generally remain in one position. This lets you adjust Rose’s distance until the whip consistently reaches the target.
Floating spirits in the Holy Innocents’ Cemetery are another suitable option. Practising against either enemy type can help you build the consistency needed for the challenge.

Whip attack requirements for Holy Cross
The Holy Cross Work of Mercy requires you to kill 10 enemies with a whip attack. The whip itself does not deal damage as a normal weapon. Instead, it enhances attacks made with Rose’s equipped weapon and can also be used to swing from anchors or pull Rose towards enemies.
It is important not to confuse this technique with the separate Holy Cross requirement to acquire three different whip-type weapons. The whip received after defeating Fallen does not count towards that weapon-collection task.
