Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will return for its second and final season in March 2027, giving Australian viewers a new chapter of the Paramount Plus series to look forward to early next year.
Starfleet Academy season 2 arrives in March 2027
The release window was announced during a New York Comic Con panel celebrating Star Trek’s 60th anniversary. The panel later featured a conversation between Ben Stiller and William Shatner, but the cast and creative team first shared news about the next season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
Season 2 is expected to contain ten episodes and will premiere on Paramount Plus in March 2027, approximately one year after the first season concluded. No full trailer has been released yet, although panel attendees saw a clip introducing one of the season’s new characters.
New family connections for Nahla
Executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau appeared alongside members of the main cast to discuss what lies ahead. One notable reveal is that Nahla’s parents will feature in at least one episode.
- Bill Nighy will play Nahla’s father.
- Rosmarie DeWitt will portray her mother.
- Holly Hunter, who plays Nahla, will also appear as her twin sister in the episode.
The casting news points to a story that will expand the character’s background while giving the performers more room to develop their roles.
The final season brings the cadets’ story to a close
The second season is also confirmed to be the show’s last. Earlier reporting identified season 2 as the final instalment, although the New York Comic Con panel did not directly address the cancellation. The announcement was not challenged either.
Despite the shorter run, the cast members on stage appeared enthusiastic about returning to their characters. A second season gives them an opportunity to understand the cadets more deeply and take their stories in new directions.
