Avengers: Doomsday arrives in US cinemas on Friday, 18 December, and some opening-weekend moviegoers will have a chance to receive an exclusive Doctor Doom card for Magic: The Gathering. There is a catch: the promotion is limited to specific screenings and eligible Regal customers.
How to claim the Avengers: Doomsday Magic card
To qualify for the giveaway, moviegoers must meet all three requirements:
- Attend an Avengers: Doomsday screening labelled Infinity Vision.
- Go during opening weekend, from Thursday through Sunday.
- Be a member of the Regal Crown Club.
What makes the Doctor Doom card different?
The giveaway is an exclusive variation of the “Doctor Doom, King of Latveria” Commander card from the Doom Prevails preconstructed deck. Its gameplay is unchanged, with no special abilities added, but the artwork is different.
On the standard version, Doctor Doom sits on a throne while holding a magical orb. The Regal Cinemas version instead depicts him standing among Doombots in a more threatening pose. The alternate artwork, rather than a rules change, is the main attraction for collectors.
Why the promotion is tied to Infinity Vision
Infinity Vision is a Disney-created certification for premium cinema screens, promising an enhanced presentation for Disney releases. The promotion directs fans towards Regal locations offering an Infinity Vision showing during the film’s opening weekend.
Avengers: Doomsday will share its US release date with Dune: Part Three. Because Dune has secured IMAX screenings for its first few weeks, Marvel fans will not be able to see Doomsday in IMAX during opening weekend. Infinity Vision is the alternative premium-screen format highlighted for the release.
Could the exclusive card become valuable?
Magic: The Gathering cards have previously reached resale prices of thousands, and in some cases millions, of dollars. The scale of a major Marvel film could make this Doctor Doom variant particularly interesting to collectors, although its eventual market value remains unknown.
