Final Fantasy VII Revelation has added another familiar voice to its cast, with Critical Role performer Marisha Ray taking on the role of Polydroid Shiva.
This is not the traditional summonable version of Shiva. Polydroid Shiva appears to be a digitised, non-player-character interpretation of the ice summon, resembling the stylised figures seen in the Fort Condor minigame in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. In other words, she looks like a compact, game-world version of Shiva rather than the full-scale summon.
Marisha Ray and Matt Mercer share a scene
The casting news was announced during the Final Fantasy VII Revelation panel at New York Comic Con. Square Enix also showed a clip of Polydroid Shiva speaking at length with Vincent Valentine, voiced by Matt Mercer.
Mercer and Ray are married in real life, giving the scene an extra point of interest as the pair trade dialogue through Vincent and Shiva. A social-media post about the footage also highlighted the duo’s interaction and teased Vincent’s involvement in the game’s snowboarding sequence. You can view the post via the shared clip or see the October 8, 2026 post.
The clip has prompted plenty of enthusiasm for Ray and Mercer’s exchange as Polydroid Shiva and Vincent Valentine. Spoilers are flagged under #RevelationSpoiler.
Shiva gets a Gold Saucer assignment
Polydroid Shiva appears to have been commissioned by the Gold Saucer to operate its snowboarding minigame. The attraction has encountered a problem, leaving Vincent to help put things right and creating several entertaining exchanges between the two characters.
It is a clever way to bring this alternate version of Shiva into the story while giving Ray and Mercer a chance to play opposite one another. From the footage shown so far, both performers seem to be enjoying the unusual pairing.
