Interest in Injustice 3 has surged after a new playtester recruitment notice described an upcoming, unreleased AAA 2D fighting game. The details do not name the project, but they have prompted fresh speculation that NetherRealm Studios may be preparing the next chapter in its DC fighting series.
The listing comes from Good Gamer Group, a publisher that arranges playtests for unreleased games under non-disclosure agreements. It seeks highly ranked 2D fighting-game players for a four-hour, in-person session in Culver City, California, running from September 14 to September 15, 2026.
Applicants must have reached at least the top 25% in a major 2D fighting game. That description is broad, and it is not confirmation of an Injustice project. However, the combination of the game’s reported scale, genre and United States testing location has encouraged fans to look more closely.

Why the playtest has been linked to Injustice 3
Several announced fighting games do not fit the description. Virtua Fighter: Crossroads and Dead or Alive 7 are 3D fighters, while Melty Blood Type Lumina is not positioned as a AAA release. That leaves room for an unannounced project, although the listing alone cannot identify it.
Injustice 3 is considered a strong possibility because NetherRealm Studios is one of the few major United States developers focused on high-profile fighting games. The studio created both earlier Injustice titles as well as the Mortal Kombat series.
The timing also fits a possible development pattern. Mortal Kombat 1 launched in 2023, following Mortal Kombat 11 after a four-year gap. If a new Injustice game arrived in 2027, it would broadly match that release rhythm. This remains speculation rather than an announced schedule.
Other clues are keeping fans interested
Rumours surrounding the project have circulated for some time. Multiple voice actors have previously referred to Injustice 3, although those comments were later withdrawn or walked back. Ed Boon, NetherRealm’s creative director, has also recently shared Injustice-related clips, despite the last mainline game arriving in 2017. No developer, publisher, characters, platforms, release date or title has been officially attached to the project.
