Halloween: The Game, IllFonic’s multiplayer survival game based on the Halloween film franchise, has received its first hotfix ahead of its official release on September 8. The title is currently available through advanced access for players who pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition.
The timing of the update attracted attention because players had recently discovered a sexual minigame involving the game’s playable characters. Reports about the feature began circulating on X on September 5.
The interaction appears to have been designed as a darkly comic reference to the familiar “sex signals death” convention in slasher cinema, a recurring idea in the Halloween films. However, the game’s character roster created a serious problem: most of its playable cast are teenagers, while Dr Samuel Loomis is listed as 56 years old.
Loomis is represented using the likeness of the late actor Donald Pleasence. Other playable characters include film characters such as 17-year-old Annie Brackett, meaning the minigame could place Loomis’s character model in a sexual situation with underage survivors.
Footage showing a rather tongue-in-cheek sex minigame was captured before the update. The discovery prompted players to question whether the interaction had been overlooked during pre-release testing.
IllFonic’s Hotfix 1 does not identify the minigame in its notes. Even so, posts from the game’s subreddit confirm that the feature has been removed entirely.
The developers have not publicly explained the change on the game’s Discord server or social-media accounts. Players first raised the issue less than a day before the hotfix, suggesting a very rapid response if the minigame was the reason for the emergency update.
That quick turnaround does not resolve the separate question of how the interaction reached advanced access, particularly given the ages assigned to several characters and the use of Pleasence’s likeness for Loomis. IllFonic was contacted for comment, but no response is included here.
