Harrison Ford is being recreated for Disney’s next Indiana Jones ride
Disney Imagineers have revealed Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, a new attraction planned for Animal Kingdom. Its standout feature will be an animatronic Indiana Jones modelled directly on Harrison Ford.
Ford has previously appeared in the Indiana Jones films, but his likeness has not been used for an Indiana Jones attraction at a Disney park. He recorded a short video confirming his involvement, which was shown during the Horizons: A Carousel of Progress panel on 14 August.
What to expect from Myth of the Jade Serpent
The attraction will take guests alongside Indy as he investigates the ruins of an ancient Maya temple. The site is protected by Tsukán, the jade serpent named in the ride’s title, before Indy and the riders are drawn into the underworld.
The finale will focus on a dramatic escape. Disney says its creative team consulted Maya archaeology and anthropology experts while developing the attraction, with the aim of representing the culture accurately. Disney’s attraction update provides more details about the project.
Will Harrison Ford voice the character?
For now, Disney has only confirmed that Ford’s appearance will serve as the model for the animatronic. The announcement does not say whether he will provide Indy’s voice, so his vocal involvement remains unknown.
It would be unusual for the attraction’s version of Indiana Jones not to speak. If Ford does not reprise the role beyond supplying his likeness, Troy Baker has already demonstrated his ability to perform the character in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Part of Animal Kingdom’s Tropical Americas expansion
No opening date has been announced for Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. The attraction will form part of Animal Kingdom’s Tropical Americas expansion, alongside an attraction inspired by Encanto.
The expansion will also include El Carrusel de los Animalitos, a carousel featuring Disney and Pixar characters. Until further announcements arrive, the Ford animatronic remains the clearest indication of how Disney plans to bring this new Indiana Jones adventure to life.
