Fields of Mistria is a welcoming farming and life simulation with plenty to discover, from crop growing and crafting to friendships, combat, fishing and animal care. Its many systems are easy to enjoy, but a few useful features are not explained immediately.
These beginner tips will help you manage your first days, spend your money wisely and explore Mistria without unnecessary frustration.
13 beginner tips for Fields of Mistria
1. Buy the first bag upgrade early
Inventory space becomes a problem almost immediately. Spending your first 1,000 gold on the Basic Pouch from the general store adds 10 slots and prevents constant trips home to unload items. A second upgrade becomes available later, but the first one is much more urgent. It may feel expensive at the start, but the extra room pays off quickly.
2. Catch items even when your bag is full
If you spot an interesting bug or another collectible with no free inventory space, catch it anyway. The item will remain on the ground until you return for it. Leaving a creature uncaught means it can disappear, while catching it effectively reserves it for later collection.
After you progress a little, the Lost and Found service will collect items you have left around town and place them in a convenient box.

3. Speak to every villager
Talk to people whenever you see a speech bubble above them. Unlike many life simulations, Mistria’s residents have plenty of dialogue, and repeatedly speaking with them can build affection faster than expected. Regular conversations are well worth making part of your daily routine.
4. Remember that jumping is useful
Jumping is easy to overlook, so check your control settings to see which button activates it. You can use the move to clear obstacles and perform jump attacks during combat. It can also get you out of a tight situation when exploring.
5. Swimming is available from the beginning
You can safely enter the water from the start. Walk beside a body of water and press the jump button to jump in; press it again when you want to climb out. Swimming costs no energy and opens up areas that cannot be reached on foot.
Look for circles of bubbles on the surface. These dive spots can contain treasure. Swimming close to fish, however, may scare them away.

6. Take the Inn’s free soup
Once each day, interact with the cooking pot by the fire at the back of the Inn’s main room. The free soup restores a small amount of health and stamina, which can be particularly helpful after an overambitious day of work or exploration.
7. Inspect item descriptions for museum donations
You do not need to travel back to the museum every time you find a possible donation. Open an item’s description and look for the museum-shaped symbol near the top. A green tick in the small box beside it means you have already donated that item. An empty box means you should keep it for the museum.
8. Prioritise town rank quests
Early in the game, you will be introduced to the town ranking system and asked to increase renown. Daily quests from the board are one of the simplest ways to earn money, receive useful tools and make steady progress.
Farming takes time to become profitable, and seeds can be expensive. Completing quests helps fund your crops, while grateful neighbours may also reward you with free seeds.

9. Craft several storage chests
As soon as crafting is introduced, make multiple chests. Even a seemingly generous storage supply fills quickly once you begin collecting crops, discoveries, quest items and materials.
10. Keep possible crafting materials
Many early items have descriptions explaining that they can be used in crafting. Hold on to anything that looks like a crafting resource, especially rare items or materials available only during a particular season.
It is easy to reach autumn and discover that you need something that only appears in spring. Until you understand the recipes and requirements, avoid selling items indiscriminately.
11. Craft a copper sword before entering the Mines
The starting sword deals very little damage. Make a copper sword early, ideally soon after crafting storage chests, and equip it before attempting the Mines. A stronger weapon will make those first underground battles considerably more manageable.

12. Find the fishing rod yourself
Fishing is not introduced as directly as farming, crafting or bug catching. You need to obtain a rod from the shop on the beach or craft one yourself. Crafting is the recommended option. Once you have a rod, the game provides a short fishing tutorial.
13. Prepare properly before starting a ranch
Animal farming requires several steps. Visit Ryis’ shop and buy a blueprint for the building you want: a coop for chickens or a barn for cows. Clear a suitable area on your farm, construct the building and place the required materials in its donation box.
When the building is finished, travel next door to Sweetwater Farm and speak with Hayden. Choose Adoption at the counter to select an animal. Remember that animals also need feed. Grass cut from your farm can provide it, and animals will eat other suitable items as well.
Take your time in Mistria
There is no need to rush through every activity. You can spend a day farming, socialising, exploring or simply wandering around without being punished for ignoring another task. Players who enjoy completing seasonal goals quickly can do so, but the seasons return and there is always time to discover more.
