exA-Arcadia is taking a substantial arcade presence to EVO Japan 2024, with twelve fighting games planned for display at its booth. The event takes place in Japan at the end of April, ahead of the US EVO event in July.

The company outlined its plans during an exALive stream following this announcement. The presentation is in Japanese, reflecting its intended audience, but its key details provide a useful preview for arcade fans following the company’s expanding fighting-game line-up.

What exA-Arcadia is showing at EVO Japan

exA-Arcadia will use its booth to present twelve fighting games. The selection includes released titles, games previously shown at IAAPA 2023 and several completely new announcements.

  • Available games: Samurai Shodown V Perfect, Arcana Heart 3 Xtend, Axel City 2 and Chaos Code EXA.
  • Japanese market reveals: Omen of Sorrow: Arising Chaos and Phantom Breaker Omnia, both previously shown at IAAPA 2023.
  • New announcements: the remaining games in the twelve-title showcase will be brand-new reveals.
  • Upcoming tease: the stream ended with a hint about one of the forthcoming titles.

For Australian collectors tracking new releases, the showcase adds another useful chapter to the wider arcade news cycle. It also highlights how dedicated arcade hardware continues to support specialist fighting games outside the usual home-console market.

New shooting game also shown

Touhou Scarlet Diabolique Fantastica is not part of the EVO fighting-game programme because it is a shooting game. However, it featured prominently near the beginning of the stream and is scheduled to become available on 21 March.

The game had already entered a location test at Shinjuku Sportsland in Japan at the start of March. Its arrival gives exA-Arcadia another genre release to discuss alongside the fighting games planned for the EVO Japan booth.

Omen of Sorrow: Arising Chaos details

The stream included extended gameplay footage of Omen of Sorrow AC. The game’s webpage now lists several technical and content changes:

  • Full HD graphics rendering with anti-aliasing at 60 frames per second.
  • Load times reduced to less than half of the previous version.
  • Three frames of input lag.
  • New voices and artwork.
  • Japanese localisation.

A release is expected soon, but no firm date has been announced. More information was anticipated at Amusement Expo the following week, where Omen of Sorrow and Phantom Breaker Omnia were also expected to appear.

A mystery title on the way

The stream also offered a brief tease for another game coming to the exA platform. The clue points to a title that appeared on the MVS, while specifically ruling out The King of Fighters.

That leaves the identity of the game open for a future reveal. Fans considering dedicated upright arcade cabinets or a more compact bartop arcade can expect the platform’s specialist catalogue to remain a key area to watch.

Why the showcase matters

Between its twelve-game EVO Japan booth, the March release of Touhou Scarlet Diabolique Fantastica and the upgraded version of Omen of Sorrow, exA-Arcadia has several distinct announcements in motion. The upcoming reveals should make EVO Japan 2024 an important event for modern arcade fighting games.
